It's funny I've been looking at houses up there. Growing up into my early twenties and very early thirties we had the house up there so we can make that 6 and 1/2 hour drive from Charlotte to meet our cousins at the house who were from Virginia Chesapeake and such. Watching your videos man is brought back some great memories and it's actually got me looking on Zillow and maybe making the final life change to the beach. The goal was to buy a big 60 to 70 ft yacht and park it off of some crazy beach in Indo. But divorce is very expensive. Thank you for all of the amazing videos. Hey Brett, Your content is amazing. You really dissect the minutiae of each movement, almost like a dance step. I’m sure that you would make a great surf coach. Sorry to ask such a basic and seemingly stupid question. So I’m from Hawaii. A former South Shore shortboarder who would surf medium large waves on North Shore, East Shore, West Shore, wherever. And also have been all over traveling: Bali, Mex (Puerto, Barra, Baja), Tavarua, Costa Rica, etc. for surf trips. I am just coming back to surfing after an ultra long layoff (almost 10 years) because of really bad rotator cuff tear that kept me from surfing. I finally got the surgery repair and am trudging my way back. I have a question, because the popup is what has been eluding me lately due to my injury/repair. I have been relearning all the basics. When you popup, are you holding your rails as you pop up or are they on the deck? (I know that on your backside pigdog, you’re holding your rail, but on just a standard takeoff frontside?) I’m pretty sure that I always held my rails in my previous time as a good surfer and have been struggling with relearning and trying to do it (correctly?) as a push-up with hands on my deck. Also, I’ve recently watched some videos that dissect Kelly, John John, Parko, Matty Wilkerson and a bunch of other good surfers’ popups and was surprised to learn that in slow motion, their popup is in 2 steps: Set the back foot on the pad and then bring the front foot up between your arms. (I’m sure it takes less than a second). What are your thoughts on that? I’m really interested to hear your thoughts on these two things. Your analysis of your surfing is so scientific and perceptive. A lot of good surfers I know don’t have a clue on what they actually do. Thanks, bro.

It’s amazing how quickly he turns around and catches the wave. You see the other guy fall, and within two seconds Brett has turned around and stood up on the wave. What a crazy takeoff.

I can't talk about The Semi? You know it isn't a big secret. It's one I've sent out to counties and such. It's all over the place, Brett. They can't stop it! Update: I think I just can't post coments that have links - never do so didn't know yet. My bad... Anyways, trying to post a link to an image, but you have links disabled or some crap, so my post just gets deleted. Turn links on. We're not gonna spam ya'. In typical Google fashion, it says nothing about what's happening... okay, if that's the case, why don't I just TELL YOU about The Semi - it's not that hard to envision. 300 yards apart from each other, we start moving sand out into the ocean. It could be done numerous ways - but when the swells are low oc. Both ends follow a circular pattern and meeting up 150 yards out to sea. What holds it in place? Well, my friend, that IS the 50 million dollar question isn't it. 2 jetties. They start straight out to sea, and curve outwards. They probably be space about 100 yards apart on the outermost region. This protects the outer bank and the side banks. It's a REAL simple design. Piping connects the outer area and inner area - has 1 foot wide bars to prevent sharks from getting through. We'll have as many of these pipes as is determined by an engineer to be necessary to keep the water in the middle clean. The outer area will be for surfing The outer area could be used for fishing at night. The inner area would be used for fishing, snorkeling, diving, swimming, floating on floatables - whatever - would be free of sharks, and clean. Surfing would be off the jetties, between the jetties, and on the sides of The Semi.
